About the Role
The Senior Safety Advisor will lead, influence, and shape safety culture through hands‑on coaching, mentoring, and guidance of internal and external stakeholders. Responsibilities include ensuring statutory compliance, proactively mitigating risks, and leading incident investigations, balancing strategic leadership with practical on‑site involvement. • Lead and shape safety culture across the CityLink network • Coach, mentor, and guide internal and external stakeholders on safety matters • Ensure ongoing compliance with statutory safety obligations • Proactively identify and mitigate safety risks • Lead incident investigations and develop corrective actions • Conduct safety audits and develop improvement plans • Manage return‑to‑work programs in collaboration with line managers and injury management teams

Downer is seeking a driven and experienced Senior Safety Advisor to keep Melbourne’s CityLink road network safe and compliant. This role offers a diverse range of responsibilities and the chance to make a real impact on one of the city’s iconic assets. Ideal candidates have a strong civil or road safety background, exceptional leadership qualities, and a passion for zero‑harm outcomes. Required qualifications include a diploma or higher in Work Health and Safety, proven safety experience in road, civil construction or industrial settings, and strong communication, analytical, and relationship‑building skills. Desirable certifications are ICAM Lead Investigation and Quality/Safety Lead Internal Auditor. • Hold a Diploma or higher in Work Health and Safety • Demonstrated experience in road, civil construction or industrial safety roles • Strong written and verbal communication skills for influencing at all business levels • Strong data analysis and reporting capabilities • Desirable: ICAM Lead Investigation Certificate • Desirable: Quality/Safety Lead Internal Auditor certification
