About the Role
The role involves overseeing and developing a team of fire engineers, providing technical leadership on large, complex Defence projects, and contributing to the growth of AECOM’s fire engineering business. • Lead and manage the fire engineering team, setting SMART goals, conducting appraisals and mentoring staff toward chartership. • Oversee delivery of large, complex Defence projects, ensuring regulatory compliance, budget adherence and high‑quality outcomes. • Collaborate with multidisciplinary and national leadership teams to complete projects on time and within budget. • Provide specialised technical input and become an AECOM Approved Lead Verifier and Project Manager for strategic projects. • Estimate fire engineering budgets and schedules; lead mid‑to‑large size Defence projects nationally and internationally. • Maintain and develop client relationships, attract new business, and support the fire team’s business plan and marketing strategy. • Ensure implementation of AECOM health and safety policies during office work, site visits and other off‑site activities.

What You Bring
AECOM is seeking an Associate Director (Fire Engineer) with Defence experience for a consultancy‑based position in the UK. Demonstrable experience across a range of sectors and technical fire engineering applications is required, with a focus on Defence work expected. Candidates must have extensive experience in multidisciplinary environments, deep knowledge of UK fire standards and Defence standards, proficiency with fire engineering tools, and relevant professional memberships or certifications. Preferred candidates are UK nationals with suitable security clearance, Chartered Engineer status, and may hold a PhD or international standards experience. • Extensive experience in multidisciplinary environments and comprehensive knowledge of UK fire standards (ADB, BS 9991‑9999, HTM 05‑02, BB100). • Knowledge of Defence standards (JSP 80, DIFS) and proficiency with fire engineering tools such as FDS, SFE and evacuation modelling software. • Professional membership (e.g., MIFireE) and certifications (CFPE, NFPA); BEng/MEng or MSc in fire engineering; Chartered Engineer (CEng) preferred. • UK national with suitable security clearance; preferred PhD in a fire‑related discipline and experience with international standards (IBC, SFPE, NFPA).
