About the Role

The role provides technical leadership for the planning, design, and delivery of high‑voltage overhead transmission line projects, covering research, concept development, client interaction, proposal creation, construction support, and staff mentorship, while upholding disciplined engineering practices and strict quality and safety standards. The engineer will lead engineering for projects up to 765 kV, develop efficient execution layouts, create and maintain project schedules, conduct regular project meetings, coordinate client status updates, ensure clear communication across multidisciplinary teams, forecast resource needs, follow WSP’s QA/QC procedures, and apply expertise in PLS‑CADD, structural design, procurement, and construction methods, traveling to client sites as required. In addition to engineering duties, the position supports Project Managers with status reporting, scope, schedule, and budget development for new projects, identifies out‑of‑scope items, provides regular forecasting updates, leads or assists in client meetings, and cultivates relationships to position WSP for future work. The role also contributes to department functions such as resource forecasting, recruitment support, business‑process improvement, staff performance and technical development, business planning, and ethical decision‑making in line with WSP’s Code of Conduct. • Lead engineering for transmission projects up to 765 kV. • Develop and maintain detailed project schedules. • Conduct weekly or bi‑weekly project meetings to define deliverables. • Coordinate client status updates and support project meetings. • Ensure clear communication across multidisciplinary internal and external teams. • Forecast project requirements to aid resource planning. • Apply WSP’s QA/QC procedures throughout project execution. • Provide expertise in PLS‑CADD, structure staking, foundations, and construction specifications. • Lead project teams of varying sizes and travel to client or field sites as needed. • Support Project Managers with status reports, scope, schedule, and budget development. • Identify out‑of‑scope items and manage work scope variances. • Deliver regular project updates and forecasting to stakeholders. • Facilitate client meetings in person and remotely to strengthen relationships. • Assist department with resource forecasting and recruitment initiatives. • Implement business improvement methodologies and procedures. • Support staff performance and technical development under department leadership. • Contribute to business planning and ethical decision‑making in line with WSP policies.

What You Bring

WSP is initiating a search for a Senior Transmission Line Project Engineer to be based in the Boise, Idaho office, with a hybrid or remote work option within the Boise area. Qualified candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related discipline (or equivalent experience), possess at least 10 years of transmission engineering experience, hold an Engineer license with PE certification (multi‑state preferred), understand NESC, RUS, and/or GO‑95 standards, be proficient with PLS‑CADD and Microsoft Office, and demonstrate strong written and oral communication skills and a proven safety record. Preferred qualifications include field program planning and execution, subcontractor management, cost estimating and scheduling, extensive field experience, an MBA, involvement in technical societies such as IEEE, CIGRE, or ASCE, and proficiency with ArcGIS, AutoCAD/MicroStation, foundation design software, and pole/tower systems. WSP is an equal‑opportunity employer; the selected candidate must be authorized to work in the United States. • Hold a bachelor’s degree in engineering or related discipline (or equivalent experience). • Possess 10+ years of transmission engineering experience managing projects and multidisciplinary teams. • Maintain an Engineer license and Professional Engineering (PE) certification; multi‑state license preferred. • Demonstrate knowledge of NESC, RUS, and/or GO‑95 standards. • Exhibit strong command of transmission line fundamentals and PLS‑CADD operation. • Communicate effectively in written and oral English with internal and external stakeholders. • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite and adhere to safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies. • Field program planning, management, and execution experience (preferred). • Experience managing subcontractors and conducting cost estimating and scheduling (preferred). • Hands‑on field experience and pole/tower expertise (preferred). • MBA degree from an accredited university (preferred). • Active participation in technical societies such as IEEE, CIGRE, or ASCE (preferred). • Proficiency with ArcGIS, AutoCAD/MicroStation, and foundation design software (preferred).
