About the Role
The Lead Project Engineer – New Product Development is responsible for creating designs that satisfy customer specifications and serves as the primary interface with customers. They lead the Integrated Product Team (IPT), collaborating to drive efficient, robust design development. This technical project role within the Mechanical and Project Engineering group supports design, development, and implementation of hydraulic actuation devices. The engineer provides technical design, analysis, and guidance for new products and improvements, holding decision‑making authority for system and component designs. They plan, organize, and lead multiple simultaneous projects, creating and updating schedules, and communicating status to engineering leadership and IPTs. Responsibilities include developing engineering drawings and documentation per ASME standards, presenting design data to customers and management, and ensuring design standardization across projects. Key duties include solving design, inspection, manufacturing, and test problems for vendors, operations personnel, and customers, and leading cross‑functional Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) investigations. The role supports continuous improvement, cost‑reduction studies, and first‑time‑yield initiatives, applying DFSS, DFMA, FMEA, DOE, and GD&T principles. The engineer also mentors and coaches co‑workers, providing direction to other project engineers. • Lead Integrated Product Teams (IPT) to develop robust designs efficiently. • Provide technical design, analysis, and guidance for new product development and improvements. • Hold decision‑making authority for system and component designs within Mechanical Engineering. • Plan, organize, and manage multiple simultaneous projects, including schedule and budget tracking. • Create and maintain engineering drawings, specifications, test procedures, and review materials per ASME standards. • Present design data and recommendations to customers, management, and cross‑functional teams. • Lead problem‑solving efforts for design, manufacturing, and testing issues, including RCCA investigations. • Drive continuous improvement, cost‑reduction, and first‑time‑yield initiatives using DFSS, DFMA, FMEA, DOE, and GD&T. • Mentor and coach engineering staff, providing direction to project engineers.

What You Bring
Required qualifications are a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering (Master’s preferred) and at least five years of project engineering experience with 3D CAD in the aerospace/hydraulic/vehicle industry, including two years designing hydraulic or pneumatic flow‑control products. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship, reside within 50 miles of Los Angeles zip 90039, and meet U.S. export‑control eligibility. Additional experience desired includes leading integrated product teams, working with Pro/Engineer or similar PLM tools, applying GD&T and model‑based definition, performing basic structural or performance analysis, and having a proven record of new‑product introduction and change‑driving in the aerospace sector. Strong leadership, communication, and negotiation skills with customers are essential. • Require Bachelor’s (Master’s preferred) in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering and ≥5 years project engineering experience with 3D CAD in aerospace/hydraulic/vehicle industry. • Must have ≥2 years experience designing hydraulic/pneumatic flow‑control products and be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship. • Preferred skills: Pro/Engineer or similar PLM tools, GD&T, model‑based definition, basic structural/performance analysis, and strong leadership and negotiation abilities.
