About the Role

Business Rates Administrator – Leeds/Manchester. We are seeking a highly organised and detail‑oriented professional to join the Business Rates Finance team. The role supports day‑to‑day administration and operational management of client property portfolios, ensuring accurate billing, timely processing and excellent client service. Working closely with senior team members, the administrator maintains property and rates data, liaises with billing authorities and assists clients with their business rates liabilities. Key responsibilities include supporting multiple client property portfolios, checking and verifying business rates bills from authorities across the UK and Ireland, and maintaining accurate property databases. The role also administers rates liabilities (exemptions, reliefs, empty‑property charges, occupation changes), acts as a contact point for queries, processes portfolio changes, supports payment cycles and reconciliation, and produces basic reports for forecasting and cost control. Additional duties involve assisting with historical audits, ensuring compliance with internal controls and statutory requirements, and providing administrative support to senior consultants and the finance team. • Support management of multiple client property portfolios and keep business rates records current. • Verify business rates bills issued by billing authorities across England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland. • Maintain property databases with occupation details, rateable values and billing information. • Administer rates liabilities, including exemptions, reliefs, empty‑property charges and occupation changes. • Liaise with billing authorities and internal stakeholders to resolve routine queries. • Process portfolio changes promptly and ensure accurate record updates. • Support payment cycles through account reconciliation, credit monitoring and refunds assistance. • Generate basic reports and data summaries for forecasting and cost control. • Assist with historical business rates audits and data reviews. • Ensure compliance with internal controls, statutory requirements and service KPIs. • Provide administrative support to senior consultants and finance team members.

What You Bring

The ideal candidate has previous experience in business rates, property, finance or administration and a basic understanding of rating principles (training provided). Strong attention to detail, numeracy, organisational skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, are required; experience with rating or property management systems is advantageous. Excellent communication, the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast‑paced environment, and a proactive, reliable attitude are essential.
