About the Role
Groundmen are responsible for installing and removing both overhead and underground conductors, performing rigging for crane operations, and operating a variety of commercial vehicles. They also may use helicopters for construction tasks and operate specialized equipment such as ATVs and snowcats. Xcel Energy is seeking one or more Groundman 1st Year candidates for its Salida Service Center in Salida, Colorado. This role offers a chance to work on electric transmission line circuits, including setting and removing poles and towers and handling conductors. Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, a Class A Commercial Driver’s License, and the ability to pass the EEI Construction and Skilled Trades (CAST) test. Applicants must be in excellent physical condition, capable of handling a 90‑lb jackhammer, and able to respond to after‑hours call‑outs, including weekends and evenings. Candidates should reside within 40 miles or a 40‑minute drive of the Salida Service Center.
