About the Role

The inspector will conduct independent complex inspections of roadways and structural construction processes, ensuring compliance with contracts, and may also supervise other inspectors performing routine inspections. Work includes inspection of ITS and fiber‑optic networks, asphalt and concrete materials, pavement quality, culvert placement, foundation excavation, piling, reinforcing steel, and traffic‑control and erosion‑control devices. Additional duties involve performing calculations and contract documentation, field measurements of pay items, and preparing reports. The position may require participation in concept meetings, field‑plan reviews, CPM schedule reviews, project close‑out, and other assigned responsibilities, with statewide travel and occasional overnight stays. • Perform independent complex inspections of roadways, structures, ITS and fiber‑optic networks. • Conduct moderately complex inspections and supervise routine inspections. • Inspect asphalt, concrete, pavement, culverts, foundations, piling, reinforcing steel, and traffic/erosion control devices. • Execute calculations, contract documentation, field measurements, and prepare inspection reports. • Participate in concept meetings, field‑plan reviews, CPM schedule reviews, and project close‑out activities. • Travel statewide with occasional overnight stays. • Read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and inspection procedures. • Maintain GDOT WECS, GDOT Field Concrete Technician, and GSWCC Level 1a (Erosion Control) certifications.

What You Bring

Candidates must have a high school diploma, at least seven years of relevant experience, and demonstrated knowledge of highway construction materials, methods, geometry, and trigonometry. Required skills include reading and interpreting construction plans, specifications, and inspection procedures, drafting, using calculators and computers, note‑taking, report preparation, and effective oral and written communication. A valid Georgia driver’s license is also required. Required certifications include passing GDOT Engineering Skills Development tests Group 1 (Basic Highway Plan Reading, Basic Construction Surveying, Basic Highway Math) and Group 2 (Asphalt Paving, Base Course Inspection, Excavation and Embankment, Erosion Control) within six months of hire, GDOT WECS, GDOT Field Concrete Technician certification, and GSWCC Level 1a (Erosion Control). • Hold a high school diploma and at least seven years of relevant experience. • Demonstrate knowledge of highway construction materials, methods, geometry, and trigonometry. • Proficient in drafting, calculators, computers, and report writing. • Communicate effectively in oral and written form and possess a valid Georgia driver’s license. • Achieve GDOT Engineering Skills Development Group 1 and Group 2 test passing scores within six months of hire.
