About the Role

The Senior Completions Engineer at Fervo Energy is tasked with designing, planning, and executing geothermal well completions and workover activities, from initial stimulation through ongoing optimization. The role translates subsurface objectives into safe, repeatable, and cost-effective field operations, supporting the company’s transition from pilot projects to commercial deployment. The engineer works closely with subsurface, drilling, production, and facilities teams, providing hands‑on technical leadership throughout planning and execution. Success requires operating in high‑ambiguity, execution‑heavy environments, frequent field engagement, and a bias toward learning‑driven iteration and operational excellence. Key responsibilities include leading the technical design and execution of completions, developing detailed operational procedures, supporting field operations across the full well lifecycle, and integrating subsurface and reservoir insights to optimize completion architecture. • Lead design, planning, and execution of geothermal well completions, stimulations, and workovers. • Create step‑by‑step operational procedures meeting regulatory and HSE standards. • Provide hands‑on field engineering support and act as primary contact for completion issues. • Optimize completion architecture in partnership with subsurface and reservoir teams. • Develop cost estimates from early scoping to detailed AFE‑level and probabilistic models. • Compile technical data for permitting, regulatory filings, and internal approvals. • Apply risk assessments, hazard analyses, and Management of Change processes to operations. • Conduct post‑job reviews to capture lessons learned and drive continuous improvement. • Travel 30‑40% to field locations for oversight and collaboration with personnel.

Key Responsibilities

  • completion design
  • operational procedures
  • field support
  • cost estimation
  • data compilation
  • risk assessment

What You Bring

The position demands a bachelor’s degree in engineering, at least 10 years of well planning or execution experience (including 5 years in unconventional completions or workovers), strong knowledge of completion technologies, risk assessment, and well control systems, as well as excellent analytical and communication skills. Candidates should be willing to travel 30‑40% to field sites and thrive in fast‑paced environments. • Minimum 10 years of well planning/execution experience and 5 years in unconventional completions or workovers. • Strong understanding of completion efficiency tools, wellhead systems, and well control. • Demonstrated ability to operate in fast‑paced, execution‑heavy environments. • Preferred: hands‑on experience across drilling, completions, workovers; casing and tubing stress analysis; mentoring early‑career engineers; work on first‑of‑a‑kind well designs. • Based in Houston with hybrid work flexibility; regular office presence required.
