Landfill Heavy Equipment Operator

About the Role

The Operator – Heavy Equipment works at a recycling center, landfill or transfer station to safely transfer, spread, cover, load, and compact waste or soil. Key duties include performing pre‑ and post‑operation inspections, operating equipment such as forklifts, excavators, bulldozers and front‑end loaders in accordance with safety standards, continuously monitoring waste for unacceptable materials, and ensuring equipment remains operational by cleaning tracks or wheels and performing minor service tasks. The operator documents equipment condition, reports needed repairs, completes required reports, follows all safety policies, and keeps the shop clean and organized at the end of each shift, while also handling any additional job‑related tasks assigned.
