About the Role
The Engineering Technician V role involves non‑routine, complex assignments, including planning and executing limited‑scope projects or portions of larger endeavors. The incumbent will analyze systems, conduct tests, develop designs, and integrate technical work from others, ensuring technical adequacy and compliance. This position also mentors lower‑level technicians and may lead testing, troubleshooting, and documentation activities. The role is onsite, office‑based, with a pay rate of $51.04 per hour. The technician will manage a range of mechanical testing activities, serve as the subject‑matter expert for mechanical systems, review maintenance plans, and coordinate with customers, contractors, and other engineering disciplines. Responsibilities include generating RFIs, supporting technical task orders, developing training programs, conducting root‑cause analyses, and maintaining safety and environmental compliance. Administrative duties such as file maintenance, warehouse upkeep, and occasional vehicle operation also support departmental needs. • Conduct HVAC, building commissioning, air/water balancing, indoor air quality, boiler and chiller testing; review results and correct deficiencies. • Act as Mechanical SME: deliverables, punch lists, scopes of work, root‑cause troubleshooting, dispute resolution, and support mechanical task orders. • Review and verify maintenance plans and operating procedures against manufacturer and industry standards. • Evaluate design drawings_DIV and contractor submittals; generate RFIs to clarify mechanical requirements. • Develop and deliver mechanical training programs; mentor field technicians. • Perform root‑cause analysis of equipment failures and recommend corrective actions. • Coordinate Mechanical efforts with other engineering disciplines and ensure design integration. • Maintain knowledge of emerging technologies for program development. • Enforce health, safety, and environmental regulations throughout project execution. • Operate government or company vehicles as needed and perform routine administrative tasks (file maintenance, warehouse upkeep, phone coverage).

What You Bring
Candidates must hold a high school diploma or equivalent, a journeyman‑level certificate or professional engineer license in a mechanical discipline, and CFC Universal certification. At least seven years of mechanical experience—covering HVAC, building controls, chillers, pumps, and related equipment—is required, along with knowledge of IMC codes, building automation software, and standard contracting practices. Strong communication, analytical, planning, and Microsoft Office skills are essential, as is U.S. citizenship, ability to obtain a clearance, lift 50 lb, and possess a valid driver’s license. • High school diploma or GED; journeyman‑level certificate or Mechanical PE license. • CFC Universal certification. • Minimum 7 years of mechanical engineering/technology experience. • Proficiency with HVAC equipment, building control systems, chillers, pumps, boilers, steam PRVs, cooling towers, heat exchangers, and test & balancing. • Experience with building automation software applications. • Working knowledge of International Mechanical Codes (IMC). • Strong written and verbal communication skills. • Familiarity with standard contracting regulations and practices. • Understanding of health, safety, and environmental standards. • Ability to research, analyze, and apply rules and recommend cost‑effective solutions. • Planning and coordination skills across engineering disciplines. • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word. • U.S. citizenship and eligibility for an intelligence‑community clearance. • Ability to lift at least 50 lb and hold a valid state driver’s license.
