About the Role

The Water Operator role supports the Water team by operating the machinery required to install underground piping for customers. The position involves collaborating with department personnel, performing equipment checks, and ensuring safe, efficient installation work. Operators also assist maintenance crews or act as laborers when equipment is not in use. • Operate jobsite equipment safely, such as mobile cranes, bulldozers, loaders, backhoes, excavators, track hoes, trenchers, etc. • Perform service, safety checks, and minor repairs on machines, including oil and fluid inspections. • Inspect work area to ensure it has been staked/located prior to digging. • Work with maintenance crew or assist as laborer when not operating equipment. • Dig around all live utilities, both underground and overhead. • Train, guide, or oversee work of lower‑graded operators and laborers as needed. • Load trucks safely and accident‑free. • Improve operations, reduce turnaround times, streamline processes, and cooperate to provide quality, timely customer service.

What You Bring

This field‑based role demands frequent bending, squatting, climbing, lifting up to 50 pounds, and work in all weather conditions, including extreme heat or cold. Good vision, hand‑eye coordination, and the ability to judge distances are essential. The job’s physical requirements are representative of the essential functions needed for successful performance. • Comply with proper safety standards/procedures and work practices per MasTec or the customer, whichever is higher. • Minimum: High school diploma or equivalent. • Minimum: At least 1 year of relevant experience. • Minimum: Valid driver’s license. • Preferred: 2+ years of experience. • Preferred: OSHA 10 certification. • Preferred: CDL Class A driver’s license.
