About the Role
Senior Project Engineers ensure that all project tasks—from proposal to final invoice—are completed either personally or by subordinates, while mentoring junior staff and upholding a positive customer service attitude aligned with ECS Core Values. Their primary duties include overseeing the preparation and review of geotechnical reports, managing geostructural design projects, and coordinating proposals and CMT initiatives. The role involves active business development, requiring weekly interaction with 200‑400 clients, marketing of services, and participation in industry events, boards, or committees. The engineer also provides technical training, verifies calculations, and ensures that technicians, staff, and project managers are qualified for their assignments. Project management responsibilities encompass senior review of field reports twice daily, handling invoicing and collections, maintaining contracts and pay applications, and addressing profitability and billability concerns. Weekly meetings with staff, project managers, and principals are held to balance workload, disseminate information, and coordinate project‑specific discussions. Safety is a core focus, with participation in ECS safety programs, field audits, incident reporting, and strict adherence to safety policies, including halting work when hazards are identified. Growth and financial management duties include reviewing proposals and contracts, setting step‑by‑step goals with junior staff, providing constructive performance evaluations, and approving timecards. • Ensure completion of all project tasks from proposal through final invoicing. • Mentor and train junior staff, assign training, and conduct performance evaluations. • Oversee preparation and review of geotechnical reports and geostructural designs. • Manage geotechnical projects: boring layouts, utility clearances, drill supervision, in‑situ testing, soil classification, lab testing, and report generation. • Manage geostructural design projects such as MSE walls, soil nail walls, pile and lagging walls, deep foundations, ground improvement, and dewatering. • Prepare and review geotechnical and CMT proposals and monitor daily project progress. • Conduct client meetings to discuss reports, provide technical solutions, and act as primary project contact. • Drive business development by weekly client interactions, marketing services, and participation in industry events and leadership roles. • Perform technical reviews, verify calculations, and ensure staff qualifications for assigned work. • Maintain billable utilization and productivity targets set by supervisors. • Review field reports twice daily, manage invoicing, collections, contracts, and pay applications. • Host weekly meetings with staff, project managers, and principals to balance workload and share information. • Enforce ECS safety policies, participate in audits, report incidents, and halt unsafe work. • Review proposals and contracts for training and development purposes. • Set daily goals with junior staff, monitor progress, and approve timecards.
