About the Role
The Range Operator role offers a broad scope, supporting the Range Supervisor with maintenance, operation and security of range facilities while ensuring adherence to standing orders and safety procedures. The incumbent will also perform inspections, upkeep of training areas, deliver specialist range performance, and provide data for reporting. Downer plans, creates and sustains essential public services across Australia and New Zealand, managing critical infrastructure from hospitals to data centres and defence partnerships. The company is sovereign‑owned, ASX‑listed and has been recognised as Estate & Infrastructure Business of the Year (2025) and Prime Contractor of the Year (2024, 2025). • Provide basic maintenance, operation, and security of range facilities. • Ensure compliance with range standing orders and safety procedures. • Inspect and maintain training areas and ranges. • Conduct safety and compliance checks against relevant standards. • Deliver specialist training area and range performance. • Support reporting for the Range Supervisor. • Apply facilities maintenance and caretaker knowledge. • Complete required Range Induction and Public Safety Training packages.

What You Bring
The position begins in February 2026 and is open to candidates from all backgrounds, whether they bring defence experience, industry knowledge, or transferable skills. Ideal candidates have experience with facilities maintenance, minor repairs and caretaker duties, and hold a current open driver’s licence (a medium rigid truck licence is desirable). Completion of the Range Induction Course, Public Safety Training Package units and the ability to obtain a Defence Security Clearance (Australian citizenship required) are also required.
