About the Role
Within a business unit, the Operations Manager – Hauling is responsible for overseeing collection activities for commercial, industrial, and residential customers, as well as container delivery and pickup across a geographically dispersed area. The role manages a team of Operations Supervisors, Dispatchers, Operations Clerks, Drivers, and Helpers who operate the route system for commercial, roll‑off, and residential customers. The Operations Manager collaborates with the General Manager and other unit leaders to execute a local market strategy aligned with the Area’s overall strategic operating and marketing plans, driving functional excellence and budget achievement. The manager handles staff hiring, training, coaching, performance management, and safety issue resolution while establishing supervisory goals and objectives. They implement plans that complement the business unit’s strategic and operating plan, champion tactical initiatives, and optimize route productivity, labor hours, and disposal expenses. The role interacts with customers and government entities to resolve service concerns, ensures compliance with regulatory standards, oversees safety and accident‑prevention programs, approves expenses, and manages the operations budget. Additionally, the manager builds a best‑in‑class team culture, drives talent development, and maintains strong relationships with government, community, and environmental groups. • Hire, train, coach, and manage performance of operations staff while resolving safety issues • Execute strategic and tactical plans to improve customer experience, growth, and profitability • Optimize route productivity and control labor and disposal expenses for commercial, roll‑off, and residential collections • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and address customer service concerns with government agencies • Lead safety programs, accident prevention, and loss‑control initiatives • Oversee the operations budget, approve expenses, purchase orders, and vendor pricing • Build a high‑performing team culture and drive talent development and best‑practice sharing • Maintain strong relationships with government, community, and environmental stakeholders
