Job Highlights
About the Role
• Develop scopes of work for use in proposals. • Review engineering design analyses for allowable bearing pressures, settlement, deep foundations, liquefaction, seismic design, slope stability, seepage, and excavation support. • Perform oversight and manage junior staff during subsurface explorations. • Review junior staff analyses for slope stability, settlement, deep foundation design, excavation support, and soil liquefaction. • Prepare engineering reports that evaluate field and laboratory results in accordance with the NYC Building Code and other IBC‑based codes. • Provide Special Inspection oversight for deep foundation testing, subgrade inspection, controlled filling, in‑place density testing, and installation of underpinning and excavation support systems.

What You Bring
NV5 is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer for its New York City office. The role requires 6–10 years of experience, strong writing and analytical skills, and the ability to collaborate on projects for public and private clients. The engineer will lead technical efforts, oversee junior staff, and ensure compliance with relevant codes and standards. Candidates must hold a Baccalaureate degree in civil engineering, a current NYS PE license (or obtain reciprocity within six months), and possess experience with AutoCAD and geotechnical analysis software. Additional qualifications such as OSHA training and postgraduate specialization in geotechnical engineering are advantageous. • Hold a civil engineering Baccalaureate degree (post‑graduate geotechnical focus preferred). • Maintain a current NYS Professional Engineer license or obtain reciprocity within six months of hire. • Demonstrate strong writing, analytical, and collaborative abilities. • Possess OSHA 10‑, 30‑, or 40‑hour training (preferred). • Proficient in AutoCAD and experienced with geotechnical software such as Slide, APile, LPile, All‑Pile, WEAP, CivilTech Shoring Suite, Deep EX, PLAXIS, Shake 2000, etc.

Benefits
The position offers a base salary range of $90,000 to $130,000, with potential adjustments based on knowledge, skills, and experience, plus eligibility for a comprehensive benefits package.
