Lead Mechanical Engineer, Mining/Resources
Lead mechanical/piping engineering for mining & industrial EPCM projects across Canada.
Job Highlights
About the Role
As a Lead Mechanical Engineer you will oversee the delivery of complex mechanical and piping engineering for mining and industrial projects across Canada, from early concept studies through detailed design and construction support on major EPCM programs. The role can be based in any Canadian office, with a preference for locations in Northern Ontario, British Columbia and the Atlantic provinces. You will lead multidisciplinary engineering packages, applying deep knowledge of ASME, API and TEMA codes to develop safe and reliable systems. Responsibilities include directing piping layouts, selecting rotating equipment, designing pressure vessels and heat exchangers, preparing mechanical calculations, and developing project standards, material specifications and inspection plans. • Lead mechanical and piping engineering packages for mining and industrial EPCM projects across Canada. • Apply ASME, API and TEMA codes to design safe, compliant mechanical and piping systems. • Direct and review piping layouts, isometrics, bills of materials and fabrication deliverables. • Select and specify rotating equipment (pumps, compressors, blowers) based on lifecycle cost and performance criteria. • Design pressure vessels, heat exchangers, tanks, chutes, bins, hoppers and conveyor components in coordination with structural and process teams. • Prepare and verify mechanical calculations (wall thickness, reinforcement, external pressure analysis). • Develop and maintain project standards, material specifications, valve specifications and equipment datasheets. • Prepare RFQs and lead technical evaluations for bulk materials, valves, specialty components and rotating equipment. • Resolve design and material issues collaboratively with procurement and construction partners. • Create inspection and test plans, including hydrostatic testing and NDT requirements for tanks and vessels.
