About the Role

The Groundman position is an entry‑level role in the construction and maintenance of the nation's power grid, where you will assist your team in building, repairing, and maintaining overhead electrical distribution systems. Work is performed outdoors and may expose you to fumes, airborne particles, loud noise, vibration, and extreme weather conditions while handling moving mechanical parts. • Assist line‑workers to meet project objectives. • Join storm restoration efforts as needed. • Operate vehicles and equipment professionally. • Provide customer‑service focus. • Follow established safety rules and company policy. • Travel long distances on short notice when required. • Work extended periods in various locations. • Perform safe new construction, maintenance, or repair of energized and de‑energized overhead lines. • Inspect rubber goods and personal protective equipment (PPE). • Wear appropriate PPE as required. • String overhead wire. • Set poles and anchors. • Assist installing transformers, lightning arrestors, cutouts, cross‑arms, insulators, switches, and switchgear. • Assist in replacing transformer fuses and clearing faulted circuits. • Work with energized high‑voltage systems safely. • Maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools. • Apply basic rigging, hand lines, and lineman knots. • Use and maintain hand tools properly. • Follow directions received. • Identify primary and secondary voltage on a circuit. • Assist with installation and hookup of single‑phase transformers. • Perform basic bucket rescue/escape procedures. • Observe minimum approach distances. • Follow excavation and shoring requirements. • Check voltage on transformers. • Install and remove a service. • Climb wood, steel, and other structures using appropriate tools. • Identify different line‑work materials.

What You Bring

The job requires frequent standing, walking, climbing various structures, lifting over 50 lb, and using hands for detailed tasks, as well as good vision for close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception.
