Test Bay Engineer for naval refrigeration systems – testing, commissioning and support

About the Role
• Perform functional and performance testing of naval refrigeration systems. • Carry out electrical hook‑up of refrigeration units, chilled water plants, and control systems in the test bay. • Conduct mechanical pipe fitting for refrigeration and fluid systems. • Execute noise and vibration testing using calibrated equipment and standard procedures. • Commission refrigeration & HVAC units in the test facility. • Ensure full compliance with F‑Gas regulations, including leak detection, recovery, and certification. • Diagnose and resolve technical issues during testing and commissioning. • Record and analyse test data, producing detailed reports and feedback to engineering teams. • Maintain test equipment and uphold safety standards in the test bay. • Support the build area during non‑testing periods, assisting with system assembly and integration. • Support the service team during non‑build time, assisting with compressor rebuilds and attending sites if required. • Collaborate with service, design, manufacturing, and quality teams to support product readiness.

What You Bring
Role Overview: We are seeking a skilled and proactive Test Bay Engineer to join our UK HVAC Naval Services team, specializing in testing and validation of naval refrigeration and chilled water plants. The hands‑on role includes electrical hook‑up, mechanical pipe fitting, noise and vibration testing, commissioning, and ensuring compliance with F‑Gas regulations. Outside active testing periods, the engineer will support the service and build team with system assembly, compressor rebuilding, and site visits, ensuring performance, safety and regulatory standards before deployment to naval platforms. • Engineering qualification (HNC/HND or degree) in Electrical, Mechanical, Marine, or Refrigeration Engineering. • Valid F‑Gas Certification (Category I or II). • Proven experience in electrical hook‑up and mechanical pipe fitting. • Experience with commissioning and factory acceptance testing (FAT). • Familiarity with noise and vibration testing techniques and tools. • Strong fault‑finding and diagnostic skills. • Ability to interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and technical documentation. • Good communication and reporting skills. • Eligibility for UK Security Check (SC) clearance. • Eligibility for UK Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance.
