About the Role
Key duties include selecting pipe sizes and materials, inspecting work sites for obstacles, planning installation sequences, cutting, threading, bending, and mounting pipe components, and securing them to structures. The journeyman also installs and maintains refrigeration and air‑conditioning systems, tests for leaks, welds pipe supports, handles material loading and unloading, and ensures compliance with safety and project rules. • Lays out, fabricates, assembles, installs and maintains piping systems, pipe supports, fixtures, and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, sprinkling and production and processing systems. • Selects type and size of pipe and related materials and equipment, such as supports, hangers, and hydraulic cylinders, according to job specifications. • Inspects worksite to determine presence of obstructions. • Plans installation sequence to avoid obstructions and coordinate with other workers. • Cuts pipe using hacksaw, pipe cutter, hammer and chisel, cutting torch, or pipe cutting machine. • Threads pipe using a threading machine. • Bends pipe by hand or with pipe‑bending tools and machines. • Mounts pipe hangers and brackets on walls and ceilings to support pipe. • Assembles and installs metal or non‑metal pipes and fittings using threaded, caulked, soldered, brazed, fused, or cemented joints and hand tools. • Secures pipes to structures with brackets, clamps, and hangers using hand and power tools. • Installs and maintains refrigeration and air‑conditioning systems, including compressors, pumps, meters, pneumatic and hydraulic controls, and piping. • Tests piping systems for leaks by pressurizing pipes and observing gauges. • Welds pipe supports to structural steel members. • Observes production machines to detect malfunctions and may operate machinery to verify repairs. • Loads, transports, and unloads material, tools, equipment, and supplies. • Assists in lifting, positioning, and securing material and workpieces during installation. • Performs minor maintenance and cleaning of tools and equipment. • Observes and complies with all safety and project rules. • Makes decisions based on measurable criteria. • Plans work and selects proper tools. • Visualizes objects in three dimensions from plans and drawings. • Compares and distinguishes size, shape, and form of lines, figures, and objects. • Relies on instructions and pre‑established guidelines to perform job functions.

What You Bring
The Journeyman position requires at least three years of documented field experience in a chosen craft discipline and the ability to read, interpret, and independently execute work instructions. The role involves laying out, fabricating, assembling, installing, and maintaining piping systems and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment for various steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, sprinkling, and production processes. Candidates should have at least a high school diploma or equivalent and relevant experience, demonstrating knowledge of common concepts and procedures in the field. They must be able to work within precise accuracy limits, make decisions based on measurable criteria, apply shop mathematics, plan work, select appropriate tools, visualize three‑dimensional objects from drawings, work at heights, and compare sizes and shapes accurately. The position demands physical capabilities such as standing, walking, and sitting for extended periods, lifting and carrying up to 50 lb, and applying force up to 70 ft‑lb. Frequent climbing, balancing, reaching, handling, and fingering are required, while stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and other motions may occur occasionally. • Typically 3 years and above documented field experience in chosen craft discipline with ability to read and interpret instructions and document, plan and perform work activities independently. • Uses respiratory protection as required. • Applies shop mathematics to solve problems. • May require a high school diploma or equivalent with relevant experience. • Possesses knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures in the field.
