About the Role
Mortenson is seeking an Electrical Senior Commissioning Manager Controls for its Energy Storage Group. The role will lead project construction and contract administration activities, focusing on successful commissioning of larger, complex assignments and supporting Commissioning Managers in planning and executing work that requires independent evaluation and adaptation of commissioning techniques. The manager will provide project management and design leadership, maintain customer relationships for new and existing Energy Solutions clients, and aid the growth of early‑stage Energy Storage planning and development services. Travel is occasional and the position can be performed remotely, with projects located across the United States. • Provide technical electrical support. • Review design documents for contract compliance and resolve issues. • Review contractual design, commissioning, testing, and turnover requirements. • Coordinate plans and specifications with engineers, clarifying discrepancies. • Conduct operational analysis and guide project teams/trade partners on performance issues. • Communicate updates and address customer questions/concerns on project performance. • Advise project teams on contractual scope of issues. • Simplify complex technical issues for non‑technical audiences. • Provide onsite electrical team support. • Coach, mentor, and train field personnel, forepersons, and superintendents. • Foster a teamwork environment and ensure crews have technical resources. • Provide work direction and identify hiring needs; participate in hiring, discipline, dismissal decisions. • Develop leadership potential through task assignments and career growth opportunities. • Implement Mortenson’s Zero Injury Safety Program on site. • Assist with technical troubleshooting during commissioning as needed. • Produce reports, including Sequence of Operation instructions for equipment use. • Build relationships with diverse backgrounds and organizational levels. • Lead by example, offer coaching and feedback, and manage performance. • Drive resolution of complex Energy Storage performance issues with trade partners and customers.

What You Bring
Candidates need a bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline or 15+ years equivalent experience, at least eight years of construction management or commissioning experience, and deep knowledge of the commissioning process, building systems, and project delivery. Strong leadership, multitasking, customer service, and travel ability are required, along with eligibility to work in the U.S. without sponsorship. • Understand PPA and interconnection design, testing, and turnover requirements. • Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Civil, Architectural, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering, or 15+ years equivalent field experience. • Minimum eight years of construction management or commissioning experience, preferably with an MEP contractor or commissioning firm. • Expert understanding of how design, construction, start‑up, commissioning, and turnover align in project delivery. • Mastery of the commissioning process (L0‑L5) and solid knowledge of key construction documents and QA/QC relationships. • Comprehensive understanding of building systems across disciplines and depth in at least one discipline (HVAC, plumbing/piping, electrical, lighting, instrumentation, controls, or building envelope). • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently, delegate workload, and balance team capacity. • Proven positive, professional attitude with excellent customer service and coaching/leadership skills. • Ability to travel as required.
