About the Role
• Lead and manage fire engineering team for Defence workload, ensuring project delivery and performance. • Oversee large, complex Defence projects to meet regulatory requirements and client expectations. • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and national leadership to deliver projects on time, within budget, and to high quality standards. • Set and monitor SMART goals for team members, conduct staff appraisals, and support professional development plans. • Provide technical input, mentorship, and training to staff, including guidance toward Chartership. • Estimate fire engineering budgets and schedules, and lead delivery of mid‑to‑large Defence projects nationally and internationally. • Act as an AECOM Approved Lead Verifier and Project Manager, approving project deliverables. • Develop and maintain client relationships, contributing to business growth and new client acquisition. • Ensure compliance with AECOM Health & Safety policies on‑site and during off‑site activities. • Promote AECOM Fire Engineering services and support marketing and business‑plan initiatives. • Maintain strong client relationships and support national team KPIs.

What You Bring
We are looking for an Associate Director (Fire Engineer) with Defence experience to join our UK office. This consultancy‑based role requires strong fire‑engineering expertise across multiple sectors and a focus on Defence projects. The successful candidate will lead a team of fire engineers and take ownership of large, complex Defence assignments. Candidates must have extensive experience in multidisciplinary environments, thorough knowledge of UK fire standards (ADB, BS 9991‑9999, HTM 05‑02, BB100) and Defence standards (JSP 80, DIFS), and proficiency with tools such as FDS and evacuation modelling software. A relevant engineering degree (BEng/MEng/MSc) and professional membership (e.g., MIFireE, NFPA CFPE) are required; Chartered Engineer status and UK security clearance are preferred. • Possess extensive experience in multidisciplinary environments and deep knowledge of UK fire standards (ADB, BS 9991‑9999, HTM 05‑02, BB100) and Defence standards (JSP 80, DIFS). • Proficient with fire engineering tools such as FDS, SFE, and evacuation modelling software; hold relevant professional memberships (MIFireE, NFPA CFPE). • Hold a BEng/MEng or MSc in fire science/engineering; Chartered Engineer (CEng) and UK security clearance preferred.
