CDL Truck Driver Apprentice
Train and operate a commercial waste collection vehicle under supervision until fully licensed.

About the Role
During training, the apprentice learns to operate the vehicle in compliance with WM Safety and Life Critical Rules, OSHA, DOT, and all applicable laws. They perform pre‑ and post‑trip inspections, complete DVIR reports, and promptly report unsafe conditions, incidents, or service interruptions to the Operations Manager or Dispatch. The role also includes participating in scheduled training programs, assisting with loading and unloading containers, communicating customer requests, and following assigned routes while completing end‑of‑day documentation. • Operate commercial refuse/recycling trucks following WM Safety, OSHA, DOT, and all applicable laws. • Conduct pre‑ and post‑trip vehicle inspections and complete DVIR documentation. • Report unsafe conditions, incidents, accidents, or service interruptions to Operations Manager or Dispatch immediately. • Participate in required training, briefings, and meetings and demonstrate proficiency before advancing. • Load and unload residential or commercial containers manually or with hoisting equipment, and assist drivers with backing maneuvers. • Communicate customer requests and route changes to Dispatch or Operations Manager. • Follow assigned routes, complete end‑of‑day paperwork, and assist other drivers as needed.

What You Bring
The Driver Apprentice works with an experienced WM Driver or Trainer to learn how to safely operate a commercial refuse and recycling vehicle after obtaining a Commercial Driving Permit. This training continues until all required competencies are met, after which the apprentice progresses to a fully qualified WM Driver. Qualifications for the position include being at least 18 years old, legally authorized to work in the United States, possessing a current state‑issued driver’s license, and passing a pre‑employment drug screen. No specific education or prior experience is required, and the ability to meet the physical demands of the job is essential. The work environment is primarily outdoors and involves driving a vehicle in various weather conditions. Employees are exposed to dirt, odors, noise, and occasional physical risks such as cuts or burns, and must be able to handle objects of modest weight and perform tasks requiring finger dexterity. • Meet minimum qualifications: 18 years old, legal U.S. work eligibility, current state driver’s license, pass drug screen. • Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting objects up to the required weight and working in outdoor conditions.
