About the Role

The Sales Application Engineer partners with the sales team to provide technical expertise, strategic support, and solution structuring for complex, large‑scale HVAC equipment selections, proposals, quoting, and submittals. This role translates customer needs into optimized configurations that meet performance, budget, and regulatory requirements, empowering sellers and increasing win rates. Key duties include developing and validating equipment sizes, configurations, and options; ensuring quotes and specifications align with customer and local standards; identifying cost‑saving and technical improvement opportunities; and staying current on industry trends and competitor strategies. The engineer also creates detailed technical proposals, supports sales presentations, reviews final submittals for compliance, and flags scope gaps, risks, and value‑engineering chances. • Develop and validate HVAC equipment sizing, configuration, voltage, and options per project specifications. • Ensure quoting and specifications comply with customer requirements and local standards. • Identify cost‑saving and technical improvement opportunities to enhance competitiveness. • Monitor industry trends, competitor strategies, and emerging HVAC technologies. • Create detailed technical proposals and accurate quotes while optimizing margins. • Support sales teams in presenting technically sound and competitive solutions. • Review and approve final technical submittals for regulatory and customer compliance. • Collaborate with project teams to flag scope gaps, risks, and value‑engineering options. • Maintain records of project costs, configurations, and customer approvals. • Provide technical guidance on complex, high‑value HVAC projects.

What You Bring

Candidates must have a high school diploma or GED and at least two years of experience in HVAC equipment selection, application engineering, or sales support. A bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field is preferred, along with strong knowledge of HVAC systems, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and commercial building design, plus proficiency in design software and familiarity with industry codes and bidding processes. • 2+ years experience in HVAC equipment selection, application engineering, or sales support. • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field preferred. • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and commercial building design. • Experience with water‑cooled chillers and complex project quoting. • Proficiency in design/selection software such as AutoCAD, Revit, SAP, or Salesforce. • Understanding of utility rebates, energy efficiency regulations, and sustainability incentives. • Experience negotiating HVAC equipment pricing and procurement. • Familiarity with competitive bid and RFP processes, pricing strategies, and contract negotiation. • Knowledge of ASHRAE, AHRI/ARI standards and codes.
