About the Role
The Apprentice Engineer supports the operation, troubleshooting, diagnostics, housekeeping, and repair of commercial buildings, industrial systems, vehicles, grounds, and maintenance equipment for assigned properties and facilities. This union‑position works under supervision to ensure reliable building performance and tenant satisfaction. • Assist with troubleshooting and repairs of buildings and installed systems, including packaging and handling machinery, plumbing, kitchen equipment, roofs, drains, shop, grounds equipment, and HVAC • Clean, lubricate, and service a wide variety of pumps, valves, pneumatic controls, electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic devices • Assist with installation and modification of building equipment and systems • Replace and repair building finishes such as ceiling tiles, door hardware, wallpaper, and paint walls, piping, floors, and equipment • Troubleshoot, evaluate, and recommend upgrades to maintenance operations or savings opportunities • Respond immediately to emergency situations and customer service requests • Inspect buildings, grounds, and equipment for unsafe or malfunctioning conditions and perform preventative maintenance • Maintain and operate fire and life safety systems, including fire alarms, fire pumps, and related protection equipment • Perform carpentry and snow removal when necessary • Comply with applicable codes, regulations, governmental agency directives, and safe work habits • Utilize technology such as smartphones, tablets, computers, web‑based applications, and building automation systems • Complete all required C&W Safety Training annually • Follow C&W Uniform Dress Code and maintain a neat, clean appearance on the property outside working hours • May be the only maintenance staff member on duty during certain shifts, requiring extended periods without relief, overtime, shift work, or on‑call duties

What You Bring
Success in this role requires technical proficiency, initiative, flexibility, multi‑tasking ability, and a sense of urgency, along with a high school diploma or GED. Candidates should bring at least two years of experience in a commercial property setting and have completed technical, vocational, or on‑the‑job training in areas such as HVAC, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, carpentry, or engine repair. A valid driver’s license, good driving record, and basic computing skills in Outlook, Excel, and Word are also required. Physical demands include regular communication with coworkers, operating a computer, moving about the workplace, and occasional stationary work. Employees must be able to extend their hands and arms in any direction and perform occasional manual tasks such as lifting or handling tools.
