About the Role

The Assistant Resident Engineer position supports rail and facilities construction engineering and inspection for AECOM’s New Jersey Transportation group. Reporting to the Project Manager, the role involves on‑site inspections, leadership of inspection teams, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards. The position is based on‑site in Piscataway, NJ, and offers an hourly rate of $75‑$85. • Conduct railroad inspections, including movable bridge replacement. • Lead, coach, and mentor inspection staff to foster excellence and continuous improvement. • Maintain accurate, complete, and accessible project records. • Serve as technical expert for field inspections and audits, resolving complex issues. • Provide consistent guidance for inspections, ensuring adherence to quality standards. • Set goals and direction for inspection teams aligned with project objectives. • Represent the company as spokesperson on technical issues with clients and regulators. • Develop and implement audit strategies, continuously refining processes. • Act as key contact for high‑profile engagements and contribute to senior leadership decisions. • Oversee safety protocol development and compliance for all inspection activities.

Candidates must hold a valid U.S. driver’s license and meet the experience and certification requirements outlined below. • High school diploma plus 8 years relevant experience or equivalent education/experience. • Valid US driver’s license. • Experience supervising experienced inspectors. • 10+ years railroad inspection experience, including movable bridge replacement. • NICET III certification, with ability to attain NICET IV.
