About the Role

A Combination Welder will weld, fabricate, and assist pipe fitters in the installation of various industrial piping systems, including pipe supports, racks, and other materials. This role supports the overall project piping layout and ensures proper integration of components. Key duties include selecting equipment, planning layouts, and applying knowledge of geometry, metal properties, and weld shrinkage to execute precise welds. The welder will layout, position, align, cut, assemble, and fit metal components, secure them with bolts, clamps, or tack‑welds, set up welding equipment, and follow appropriate procedures for various metals and pipe types while identifying equipment needs and safety risks. • Perform stick and TIG welding on pipe • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and technical manuals • Fabricate, cut, align, and assemble metal components in various body positions • Bolt, clamp, and tack‑weld parts to secure them for welding • Set up and operate arc, gas‑shielded arc, submerged arc, or arc‑gas welding equipment • Follow appropriate welding procedures for different metals (carbon steel, stainless, chrome) • Perform weld repairs on pipe • Assist pipe fitters with installation, preparation, and fabrication tasks • Identify required equipment and safety risks for each job

What You Bring

The position demands the ability to weld in 2G, 4G, and 6G orientations, proficiency in both Stick and TIG welding on pipe, and a current Zachry welding certification or the ability to pass a weld test. Candidates must have at least four years of industrial pipe welding experience, possess the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, meet all physical requirements, and bring the necessary tools on the start date. This position reports to a supervisor and has no direct reports. The employee must tolerate extensive standing, walking, bending, lifting up to 50 lb, and work at heights or on platforms with proper fall protection, while wearing required personal protective equipment in diverse weather conditions. • Weld in 2G, 4G, and 6G positions • Hold current Zachry welding certification or pass a weld test • Minimum 4 years experience welding industrial pipe (schedules 40, 80, 160) • Possess reliable transportation and ability to work at heights • Meet physical demands: standing, walking, bending, lifting up to 50 lb, climbing ladders, using fall protection • Wear required personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, respirator, safety vest, gloves, leather boots) • Preferred: current Zachry employee or ROF’ed, prior Zachry Industrial experience, industrial pipe fitter background, chemical plant construction experience
