What You Bring

As an apprentice roofer you will gain hands‑on experience performing routine maintenance and repairs on pitched and flat roofs, preparing surfaces, and installing new roofing systems, including underlay and battens for tiles and slates. You will learn health and safety procedures, especially working at heights, and develop a solid foundation in roofing techniques. The apprenticeship curriculum covers health, safety and welfare principles, material handling techniques, interpretation of product specifications, relevant standards and codes of practice, and the setup, checking and operation of equipment. Mears’ 30‑year track record of delivering more than 6,000 daily repairs across a million homes ensures you will be trusted with real responsibilities from day one, earn while you learn, and receive formal training alongside an experienced workforce. We are seeking candidates who are self‑reliant, highly motivated, have strong communication skills, can build good customer relationships, and demonstrate integrity and a willingness to solve problems and take pride in their work. All candidates must have the right to work in the UK, meet age and licence requirements for driving a Mears vehicle, and will undergo background, identity and security checks. Applications close on 8 March 2026; for enquiries contact Vickie Rudge ([email protected]). Mears is a Disability Confident employer, supports the Armed Forces Covenant, and promotes social mobility through optional background questions. • Learn health, safety, and welfare principles for roofing work. • Master material handling, storage, and moving techniques. • Understand roofing codes of practice and operate equipment safely. • Potential to achieve SCQF level 6/7 qualifications. • Strong communication and customer relationship skills. • Live in a North Lanarkshire postcode and travel independently.
