About the Role

The Hazardous Materials Manager (HMM) will oversee the safe handling, tracking, remediation, and reporting of all hazardous materials discovered during construction, ensuring compliance with GDOT, EPA, OSHA, and state regulations and the Environmental Management Plan. The role also leads internal HazMat training, certification tracking, and regulatory incident reporting while coordinating closely with the Environmental Compliance Manager and GDOT‑authorized agencies. • Provide expertise in safe handling, storage, and remediation of hazardous materials per project scope. • Ensure compliance with GDOT, EPA, OSHA, Georgia EPD regulations and GDOT Environmental Procedures Manual. • Develop, schedule, and conduct HazMat training; verify 40‑hour HAZWOPER certifications and maintain training logs. • Investigate, document, and report all hazardous material incidents to the Environmental Compliance Manager, GDOT, and regulatory bodies. • Conduct field inspections and serve as liaison between construction teams, environmental consultants, and regulators. • Support project safety and quality programs and perform secondary responsibilities such as environmental inspections.

What You Bring

• Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or a related field. • Minimum five years of experience on infrastructure or transportation projects of similar scope and complexity. • Current 40‑hour HAZWOPER certification and meet GDOT Soils, Foundation, and Material Testing certification requirements. • Demonstrated experience developing site investigation reports and remedial action plans acceptable to EPA. • Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and Georgia EPD hazardous waste regulations; valid driver’s license. • Preferred: familiarity with GDOT Technical Provisions, experience coordinating with regulators, and strong written communication skills.
