About the Role
The Pipefitter Helper works under the direction of journeyman pipefitters to lay out, fabricate, assemble, install, and maintain piping systems and associated hydraulic and pneumatic equipment. This includes work on steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, sprinkling, and various production and processing systems. Key duties involve selecting appropriate pipe sizes and materials, inspecting job sites for obstacles, and planning installation sequences to avoid conflicts. The helper cuts, threads, bends, and mounts pipe components, assembles and secures various pipe types using a range of joint methods, and assists with loading, transporting, and positioning materials. Additional tasks include testing for leaks, welding supports, and performing minor tool maintenance while adhering to safety protocols. • Select pipe type, size, and related materials per specifications • Inspect worksite for obstructions • Plan installation sequence to avoid conflicts • Cut pipe using various tools and equipment • Thread pipe with a threading machine • Bend pipe manually or with bending tools • Mount pipe hangers and brackets on walls and ceilings • Assemble and install metal or non‑metal pipes and fittings using appropriate joint methods • Secure pipes to structures with brackets, clamps, and hangers • Install and maintain refrigeration and air‑conditioning systems, including compressors and controls • Test piping for leaks by pressurizing and monitoring gauges • Weld pipe supports to structural steel • Observe and operate production machinery to detect and verify repairs • Load, transport, and unload materials, tools, and equipment • Assist in lifting, positioning, and securing materials during installation • Perform minor tool and equipment cleaning maintenance • Use respiratory protection as required • Follow all safety and project regulations • Make decisions based on measurable criteria • Apply shop mathematics to solve problems • Plan work and select proper tools • Visualize three‑dimensional objects from plans • Identify differences in size, shape, and form of components

What You Bring
Applicants should have a high school diploma or equivalent and up to two years of related experience, working under close supervision. Required competencies include precise workmanship, basic shop mathematics, ability to read and visualize plans, and willingness to work at heights. The role emphasizes following instructions, making decisions based on measurable criteria, and maintaining safety and project rules. The position demands physical stamina, including standing, walking, sitting, lifting and carrying up to 50 lb, and frequent climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching. Workers must be capable of handling tools and equipment regularly and may need to use respiratory protection.
