About the Role
The Resident Engineer will join the Hudson Tunnel project, one of the nation’s most exciting infrastructure ventures, and supervise daily construction activities on‑site. This role ensures compliance with project plans, specifications, and quality standards, especially in large shafts, excavation, and Sequential Excavation Method (SEM) tunneling, while acting as the main liaison between contractors, site supervisors, and project engineers. Key duties include enforcing safety protocols, conducting regular inspections, and preparing detailed daily and weekly progress reports. The engineer will manage planning, design, construction, and maintenance phases of tunnel and ventilation shaft projects, implement QA/QC procedures, develop risk mitigation strategies, and coordinate with project managers to keep the work on schedule and within budget. Additionally, the role requires ensuring environmental compliance, managing resource allocation, and maintaining comprehensive project documentation. • Supervise daily on‑site construction activities, ensuring compliance with plans and specifications. • Serve as primary liaison among contractors, site supervisors, and project engineers to resolve issues. • Enforce safety protocols and conduct regular inspections for heavy civil and tunneling work. • Prepare detailed daily and weekly progress reports and maintain comprehensive project records. • Identify and resolve engineering and construction issues related to excavation and SEM tunneling. • Manage planning, design, construction, and maintenance phases of tunnel and ventilation shaft projects. • Implement QA/QC procedures, inspect workmanship, and address deviations from specifications. • Develop risk mitigation strategies and contingency plans for tunneling and ventilation operations. • Coordinate with project managers to meet schedule and budget constraints while optimizing resources. • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and implement waste‑management and pollution‑control measures.

What You Bring
Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s degree in a construction‑related field and have at least ten years of heavy civil construction experience, preferably with SEM tunneling, shotcrete lining, and shaft construction. Preferred qualifications include a PE license, advanced degree, and proficiency in project management software, CAD tools, and technical analysis programs such as AutoCAD, MATLAB, and ANSYS. Strong communication, leadership, problem‑solving, and multidisciplinary teamwork skills are essential. • Bachelor’s degree in a construction‑related field and 10+ years of heavy civil construction experience. • Expertise in SEM tunneling, shotcrete lining, shaft construction, and proficiency with AutoCAD, MATLAB, and ANSYS.
