About the Role

The Fleet Category Manager • Strategic is responsible for the design, acquisition, and delivery phase of all Fleet capex requests. The Category Manager will research national and international manufacturers, obtain quotes, and conduct critical risk assessments on all capex requests. Fundamental to this role will be implementing innovation and technology solutions aimed at reducing the capital investment administration burden along with a strong focus on continuous improvement of existing processes and procedures for capital investment and business partner management. This is a highly mobile position requiring extensive travel to ensure success. The role can be based in Melbourne, Sydney or Brisbane. The role involves establishing strong relationships with fleet investment business partners and OEM equipment manufacturers, and managing the timely design, delivery and support of assets. Key processes are mapped, standardized and made more efficient, while the manager mentors teams to foster collaboration. Financial responsibilities include monthly analysis and reporting of purchases to ensure alignment with fleet strategy and budget. The manager also assists in asset planning across Downer Fleet communities, oversees the supply network, and contributes to the annual capital expenditure process and national fleet asset monitoring. • Research manufacturers, obtain quotes, and conduct risk assessments for fleet capex. • Implement innovation and technology solutions to reduce capital investment administration burden. • Continuously improve processes for capital investment and business partner management. • Establish and maintain strong relationships with fleet investment partners and OEM manufacturers. • Map, standardize, and streamline key business processes for greater efficiency. • Support, mentor, and facilitate team collaboration. • Deliver monthly analysis and reporting of purchases to align with fleet strategy and budget. • Assist in planning and placement of assets across Downer Fleet communities. • Manage supply network to ensure third‑party outcomes meet requirements. • Contribute to the annual Capex process and monitor national fleet assets.

What You Bring

Candidates must hold a qualification in Automotive Engineering, Heavy Equipment or a related trade. They should possess knowledge of construction and civil road equipment such as bitumen sprayers, stabilisers, asphalt pavers and material transfer vehicles, and have experience managing large‑scale fleet design and procurement programs. Strong supply‑chain management, negotiation skills, and a focus on health & safety and zero‑harm practices are required. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and JDE is advantageous, along with a proven record of building relationships with customers and major suppliers and demonstrating positive leadership behaviours. • Hold a qualification in Automotive Engineering, Heavy Equipment, or a related trade. • Knowledge of construction and civil road equipment such as bitumen sprayers, stabilisers, asphalt pavers, and material transfer vehicles. • Experience managing extensive fleet design and procurement programs. • Supply‑chain management and negotiation experience within construction or heavy transport. • Strong focus on health and safety and zero‑harm practices. • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; JDE knowledge considered an advantage. • Proven track record building relationships with customers and major suppliers. • Demonstrated positive leadership and collaborative behaviours in a corporate environment.
