About the Role
As a senior engineer, you will lead design engineering and provide system design support across all MEP disciplines, ensuring coordinated solutions. Responsibilities include consulting with clients, architects, vendors, contractors, and authorities, as well as conducting field surveys, system assessments, and commissioning activities. • Design plumbing and fire protection systems for diverse facility types • Conduct field surveys, system assessments, and commissioning • Perform calculations and produce clear drawings per client standards • Apply ICC, NFPA, NYC, and local codes to all designs • Lead peer reviews and provide QA/QC oversight • Interpret code requirements and resolve design issues • Support business development by expanding client relationships and attending industry events • Travel to project sites and meet project deadlines • Supervise junior engineers and coordinate multidisciplinary teams

Syska Hennessy Group, a global leader in consulting, engineering, and commissioning services, is seeking an experienced Senior Plumbing/Fire Protection Engineer for its Chicago, IL office. The firm specializes in MEP, ICT, architectural lighting, vertical transportation, and commissioning, delivering landmark projects worldwide. Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree in fire protection, electrical, or mechanical engineering and possess 8‑10 years of field experience in fire protection and fire alarm design, including at least three years of supervisory experience. Required knowledge includes ICC, NFPA, NYC and local codes, NICET certification (or ability to obtain within two years), and proficiency with AutoCAD‑MEP and Revit. • Utilize AutoCAD‑MEP and Revit for design development • Maintain NICET certification in fire alarm or fire protection (or obtain within 2 years) • Obtain multistate licensure within 2‑4 years as needed • Secure required federal security clearance for project work • Communicate design concepts verbally, in writing, and through presentations
