About the Role

This position is a laborer/helper/fire watch on a maintenance crew. The employee assists with a variety of manual tasks required for maintenance work, such as moving and retrieving equipment, digging, and performing any duties assigned by a supervisor or journeyman. The role also includes standing by for fire safety. Core responsibilities include moving equipment, digging, serving as fire watch, operating fire extinguishers, climbing onto structures and scaffolding, and using rigging and hoisting devices like chokers, chain falls, and come‑alongs to position materials. The worker also conducts preventative maintenance such as lubrication and repairing worn parts while following supervisor instructions. • Assist with moving and retrieving equipment, digging, and manual labor. • Serve as fire watch and operate fire extinguishers. • Climb ladders, scaffolding, and platforms to perform tasks. • Use rigging and hoisting devices to position materials. • Perform preventative maintenance such as lubrication and part repairs. • Follow directions from supervisors and journeymen. • Operate industrial hand and power tools safely. • Adhere to safety policies and wear required PPE. • Lift and carry loads up to 50 lb; stand, walk, bend, and squat for extended periods.

What You Bring

Applicants must be able to meet all physical demands of the job, have experience using industrial hand and power tools, and possess reliable transportation. Availability to work up to seven days per week as needed is required. The successful candidate should have basic knowledge of hand and power tools, good problem‑solving abilities, manual dexterity, and reading comprehension. Strong communication skills, teamwork orientation, and a commitment to Zachry’s safety values are essential. Preferred qualifications include being a Zachry ROF’ed or former employee, basic mechanical knowledge, experience on an industrial construction site, and formal technical education. Physical requirements involve extensive standing, walking, bending, squatting, and lifting up to 50 lb, as well as occasional work at heights on ladders, stairways, or platforms. The employee must be able to work outdoors in various weather conditions for up to 12 hours a day and wear required PPE such as hard hat, safety glasses, ear protection, respirator, safety vest, gloves, and steel‑toe boots. • Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors.
