About the Role

• Lead key planning policy projects, including local authority strategies, local plans, evidence studies, and infrastructure strategies. • Provide strategic planning advice to clients and internal teams, representing AECOM at conferences and networking events. • Manage and mentor junior team members, ensuring quality assurance and health and safety compliance. • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams to deliver projects on budget and within programme timelines. • Drive business development by nurturing client relationships and preparing commercial tenders. • Produce high‑quality technical reports and communicate effectively under pressure. • Maintain existing relationships with clients and local authorities and a proven track record in winning work. • Commit to high‑quality delivery and professional standards.

What You Bring

To support a surge in planning policy projects, AECOM is hiring an Associate Director to lead a growing workload. The role suits a strategic thinker with strong interpersonal skills, proven experience in planning policy, strategy, and project management, and a commitment to high‑quality delivery and business growth. It can be based in multiple UK offices, with hybrid working and the option of full‑time or part‑time employment. Candidates should hold a degree in Town Planning or a related discipline and be members of the Royal Town Planning Institute (or an equivalent body). They must bring significant experience in leading planning policy and strategy work, strong client and stakeholder relations, a business‑development mindset, and the ability to produce high‑quality technical reports while working independently under pressure. • Hold a degree in Town Planning (or related field) and RTPI (or equivalent) membership. • Demonstrate extensive experience in planning policy, strategy development, and stakeholder engagement.
