About the Role
• Lead archaeological field programs ensuring compliance with Heritage Conservation Act permits. • Secure and manage heritage inspection, investigation, and alteration permits while supporting proposal development. • Design, direct, and oversee field investigations, analysis, and produce high‑quality technical reports. • Manage project scope, schedule, budget, and invoicing for successful delivery. • Collaborate with Indigenous Nations, clients, and regulators to achieve respectful, technically sound outcomes. • Build and maintain relationships with Indigenous communities to support inclusive project delivery. • Contribute to business development by supporting proposals and meeting with clients. • Supervise and mentor junior staff and Indigenous workers. • Uphold “Safety First” by actively participating in WSP’s Health & Safety program.

What You Bring
The Heritage team in British Columbia seeks a Principal Archaeologist to lead and manage heritage projects across the province. The role involves close collaboration with the province‑wide Heritage team to protect cultural heritage while supporting impactful development. Candidates should be based in the Lower Mainland of BC. Health and Safety is a core value at WSP; all employees must comply with our HSE policy and client HSE requirements. Field‑based positions require the ability to perform key physical tasks, work in remote or isolated areas, and operate in varied weather conditions within safe limits. • Graduate degree in Archaeology or Anthropology (or BA with 10+ years consulting archaeology experience). • Registered Professional Consulting Archaeologist (RPCA) in good standing with Field Director/Permit Holder status in a BC Culture Area. • Proven experience identifying and evaluating diverse archaeological site types in BC terrestrial or coastal settings. • Demonstrated history of collaborative work and ongoing relationships with Indigenous communities. • Proficient with GPS data collection tools, handheld tablets, and MS Office for analysis and reporting. • Ability to prepare and peer‑review complex archaeological reports and technical documents. • Leadership experience supervising field crews and mentoring professionals and Indigenous workers. • Valid Class 5 driver’s licence; ATV/UTV operation and First Aid training are assets.
