About the Role

The manager will oversee all project tasks, maintain key client relationships, and mentor younger staff. Responsibilities include business development, delivering design work using AutoCAD, GIS, and hydraulic modeling tools, and pursuing opportunities aligned with professional passion. Experience with SWMM, FLO‑2D, StormCAD, or HEC‑RAS is advantageous. Leadership duties involve operating with integrity, setting vision and strategy, establishing goals, and fostering positive client and team communication. The manager will build and grow a Surface Water (Hydraulics/Hydrology) practice while ensuring projects are profitable and transitioned to qualified staff. Acting as a mentor and positive leader is central to the role. • Manage key client relationships and oversee all project tasks. • Mentor and develop junior staff while transitioning work to qualified team members. • Lead business development efforts and deliver designs using AutoCAD, GIS, and hydraulic modeling software. • Utilize or develop expertise in SWMM, FLO‑2D, StormCAD, and HEC‑RAS. • Provide vision, set goals, and establish strategic business planning for the Surface Water practice. • Maintain open communication with partners, clients, and internal teams. • Demonstrate profitability by managing project budgets, scopes, and proposals. • Communicate effectively at all organizational levels and build relationships with municipalities and regulatory agencies. • Participate in Kimley‑Horn’s bonus program with potential advancement to ownership.

What You Bring

Candidates must have 12 + years of civil engineering design experience and hold a Professional Engineer (P.E.) license. Strong communication, leadership, and technical skills are required, along with a proven ability to manage projects profitably, write proposals, scopes, and budgets, and develop client relationships with municipalities and agencies. The ability to mentor staff and manage resources positively is essential. • Hold a Professional Engineer (P.E.) license with 12+ years of civil engineering design experience.
