About the Role
The Underground Groundman is an entry‑level position responsible for constructing, maintaining, and repairing electrical underground distribution systems. Work is performed at various locations and may require travel to another state based on customer demand. • Perform new construction, maintenance, and repair of energized and de‑energized underground systems safely. • Set and install pad‑mount transformers and single‑phase transformers. • Identify primary and secondary voltages, induced voltage, and check voltage on transformers. • Assist with service installation and removal, including proper grounding and minimum approach distances. • Operate hand tools, rigging, hand lines, and knotted ties; maintain tools and equipment. • Conduct basic bucket rescue/escape procedures and work at heights or confined spaces. • Use Kellum grips appropriately and inspect rubber goods and PPE before use. • Climb various structures (wood, steel) and work in underground trenches and manholes. • Follow company radio protocols and receive and follow directions accurately. • Travel long distances on short notice and work extended periods at various locations. • Adhere to company safety rules, wear required PPE, and maintain a safe work environment.

What You Bring
The role involves frequent exposure to energized high‑voltage systems, underground trenches, manholes, heights, confined spaces, and inclement weather, requiring adherence to safety rules, use of personal protective equipment, and ability to lift over 50 lb. Physical demands include standing, walking, climbing structures, and performing rigorous labor while communicating via company radio. • Obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) permit within 60 days; CDL preferred. • Lift over 50 lb and perform rigorous physical labor in all weather conditions. • Communicate effectively in English and read technical instructions.
