About the Role
The Field Chemist I supports Republic Services’ Lab Pack Program, Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) and other field activities by delivering on‑site services that include waste characterization, packaging, handling, and transportation. The role emphasizes safety, meticulous attention to detail, profitability, and operational efficiency while serving customers at their locations. Key duties involve providing lab‑packing services in compliance with regulations, sampling and characterizing both hazardous and non‑hazardous waste, and generating waste profiles for end‑user facilities. The chemist also prepares price quotes, maintains detailed inventories of on‑site waste, transports waste to transfer or end‑user facilities, and completes the necessary internal paperwork for accurate invoicing. Additional tasks include de‑packing, consolidating waste, offering technical support, and performing other related responsibilities as needed. • Provide lab‑packing services at customer sites in compliance with regulations. • Sample and characterize hazardous and non‑hazardous waste. • Generate waste profiles and price quotes for customers. • Maintain detailed on‑site waste inventories and transport waste to end‑user or transfer facilities. • Prepare internal paperwork to ensure accurate customer service and invoicing. • De‑pack, consolidate, and off‑load waste at end‑user facilities. • Offer technical support and perform related duties as assigned. • Maintain a valid driver’s license and meet company MVR standards. • Apply basic chemistry knowledge and business math to documentation and analysis.

What You Bring
The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, environmental science, or equivalent experience and possesses a solid foundation in basic chemistry concepts. Strong communication skills are required to interpret business documents, technical procedures, and governmental regulations, while basic business math and accounting knowledge support accurate documentation. At least one year of relevant chemistry or environmental experience and a valid driver’s license with an acceptable motor‑vehicle record are mandatory.

The position offers a pay range of $29.15 to $40.10 per hour, adjusted by locality, and may include bonus eligibility.
