About the Role

In this position you will provide local leadership by building and mentoring a multidisciplinary Federal Science team, assessing staffing capabilities, and maintaining a design‑driven practice. Collaboration with market and office leaders will drive growth initiatives, secure new project work, and align the practice with office profitability goals, while also serving as a thought leader in professional organizations. Business development duties include acting as a seller‑doer for the federal science market, contributing to strategic plans, and leading the preparation of RFQs, RFPs, and qualification packages. You will craft interview and presentation strategies, coordinate regional teamwork, and work with marketing and design professionals to expand the firm’s project portfolio. • Lead and grow a multidisciplinary Federal Science team, assess staffing, and recruit expertise. • Collaborate with market and office leadership to implement growth initiatives and secure new Science projects. • Develop and manage client relationships, acting as key manager on pursuits and projects. • Work with the Managing Principal to meet business objectives for the Federal Science practice. • Represent the firm as a thought leader in professional organizations at local, regional, and national levels. • Serve as Seller‑Doer for the federal science market in the DMV area to achieve net fee booking goals. • Lead analysis of RFQs/RFPs and develop comprehensive proposal and qualification packages. • Create interview presentation strategies and prepare teams for winning presentations. • Partner with regional leaders, marketing staff, and design professionals to win work and grow the project portfolio.

The Arlington Studio seeks a Federal Architecture Principal with a Science focus to lead the practice’s federal market growth in the Mid‑Atlantic. This senior role partners with the Federal Architecture Market Sector Director and Managing Principal to capture new business, oversee complex projects, and ensure successful CPARS outcomes. Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, be a licensed Registered Architect, and have at least 15 years of A/E/C experience with seven years of project management, plus a proven record on large‑scale federal science projects. Preferred qualifications include sustainable design/LEED expertise, PMP certification, and extensive knowledge of the local federal market. The role requires US‑born citizenship and a background check. • Experience or interest in sustainable design/LEED. • PMP certification. • Minimum 15+ years A/E/C experience on large federal science projects. • Knowledge of the local and regional federal market. • Ability to collaborate and integrate with existing teams. • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture. • 15 years related experience, including at least 7 years in project management. • Registered Architect license. • Experience leading large‑scale projects and delivering client presentations. • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project). • Strong leadership, mentoring, and communication skills. • Willingness to travel. • US‑born citizenship required; subject to governmental background check.
