About the Role

A central focus of the position is obsolescence management, ensuring compliance with legislative requirements such as REACH and POPs as well as commercial obligations. The manager may lead obsolescence activities for non‑metallic components or for surface treatments, acting as the business lead for the latter, and will travel globally to engage with suppliers and support project activities. Key responsibilities include defining the project scope, creating a work‑breakdown structure, delivering milestones on time and within budget, and managing external agencies when needed. The role follows established programme frameworks (APQP, CRAB, TRL), applies change control, manages risks and issues, and incorporates lessons learned. Business case ownership, benefit measurement, progress reporting, stakeholder sponsorship, and resource allocation are also integral parts of the role, alongside fostering the development of team members. • Define project scope and develop work breakdown structure. • Deliver programme milestones on schedule and within budget. • Manage budget and engage external agencies for technical work. • Apply programme frameworks (APQP, CRAB, TRL) and enforce change control. • Resolve and escalate issues within the risk framework; embed lessons learned. • Report progress and secure sponsorship, stakeholder support, and funding. • Ensure adequate resourcing with skilled personnel. • Mentor and develop team members’ professional skills. • Lead obsolescence activities for non‑metallic components or surface treatments. • Ensure compliance with legislation such as REACH and POPs. • Travel globally to collaborate with suppliers and support project tasks.

What You Bring

The ideal candidate holds a UK‑level engineering or programme‑management degree (higher degree preferred), is a Chartered Engineer (CEng) or equivalent, and ideally a member of an accredited project‑management institute. A solid understanding of manufacturing processes, specialist knowledge of surface treatments, and proven experience delivering change in manufacturing environments and Capability Acquisition processes are required. • Own business case, quantify tangible and intangible benefits, and track outcomes. • Hold an engineering or programme‑management degree (UK minimum, higher preferred). • Be a Chartered Engineer (CEng) or national equivalent. • Membership of an accredited project‑management association (recommended). • Possess strong knowledge of manufacturing processes and products. • Specialized expertise in surface treatments (preferred). • Demonstrated experience delivering change in manufacturing environments and Capability Acquisition processes.
