Assistant Project Manager

About the Role

• Perform cost control and financial management. • Collaborate with Preconstruction on estimates and schedules. • Coordinate project scopes of work. • Review and compile pay applications, change requests, and other financial documents. • Partner with the Project Manager or Construction Executive. • Draft client proposals and manage contracts. • Award subcontracts and oversee subcontractor performance. • Provide direction for safe and timely project completion. • Mentor and coach project engineers and team members. • Assign jobs and support career development. • Guide Field Engineers and Project Engineers. • Lead subcontractors and suppliers in project execution. • Supervise budget and recommend subcontractor and trade partners. • Lead project buyout with subcontractors and trade partners. • Facilitate meetings among subcontractors for coordination.

What You Bring

Mortenson is currently seeking an experienced Assistant Project Manager for its Data Center Solutions Group. The role partners with the Project Manager from bid preparation through final client acceptance and includes leading, coaching, and mentoring project team members. Strong communication skills are essential as the assistant will interact with staff at all levels in a dynamic environment. Success requires flexibility, inventiveness, dedication, efficiency, high integrity, and the ability to maintain confidentiality. • Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Civil, Architectural Engineering, or Construction Management (or equivalent experience). • Minimum six years of related experience. • Ability to assist with complex project responsibilities. • Detail‑oriented to organize and lead multiple tasks. • Basic understanding of construction law and business practices. • Positive, professional attitude with strong customer service skills. • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel 100%. • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship.

The position offers a base salary ranging from $102,000 to $137,700, with higher ranges in Denver, Chicago, Seattle, Portland, and Washington, D.C.
