About the Role

Under minimal supervision, the Controls Technician performs preventive maintenance, repair, installation, commissioning, and general servicing of building automation systems, ensuring high customer satisfaction through on‑site interaction. The role also involves detailed troubleshooting, completion of project and service documentation, and acting as a trusted advisor to provide solutions during service calls. Responsibilities include diagnosing complex control system malfunctions, consulting with customers, delivering field proposals for retrofits or upgrades, and assisting sales with technical recommendations. The technician manages work to meet timelines, coordinates with managers, subcontractors, and engineers, provides safety leadership, trains customers and technicians, and maintains accurate documentation and certifications. • Perform preventive maintenance, repair, installation, and commissioning of building automation systems. • Diagnose and troubleshoot complex control system issues, including Modbus/BACnet communication problems. • Provide on‑site customer support, ensuring high satisfaction and delivering solutions during service calls. • Mentor and coach control, service, and mechanical technicians on automation activities. • Prepare and complete project and service documentation, such as sketches, as‑built drawings, and certificates of completion. • Develop field proposals for retrofits, upgrades, and enhancements, and support sales with technical recommendations. • Coordinate with managers, subcontractors, and engineers to align project activities and ensure safety compliance. • Lead safety initiatives, delivering training and awareness to technicians, subcontractors, and customers. • Install and modify software, graphics, and system configurations; create flow diagrams, sequences, and schematics. • Conduct customer training on system operations and supply manuals and documentation as needed.

What You Bring

Candidates must have at least six years of commercial controls troubleshooting experience in the HVAC industry, knowledge of building automation, Modbus/BACnet communication, and a vocational school program or associate degree (or two years relevant experience). Strong communication and writing skills, the ability to explain technical concepts to diverse audiences, and willingness to participate in on‑call rotation are required. • Minimum six years of commercial controls troubleshooting experience in HVAC, chillers, and building systems. • Vocational school graduate, associate degree, or two years of relevant electronic/mechanical service experience. • Proficiency with control theory, building automation, and troubleshooting Modbus/BACnet communications. • Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to explain technical information to both technical and non‑technical audiences. • Willingness to participate in an on‑call rotation every seven weeks.
