About the Role
Primary Purpose of Position: The role is responsible for creating and modifying simulation software logic and dynamic models used in the Main Control Room Simulator at a nuclear power plant, performing software maintenance, model updates, and enhancements with minimal support. The engineer functions independently, advises the Training Department on simulator technology, coordinates tasks, and collaborates with project managers and Clean Energy Center engineers to ensure compliance. The position also involves reviewing peers’ code, advocating standard development methodologies, and participating in an inclusive, cross‑functional team. Primary Duties and Accountabilities: Participate in planning, designing, building, and managing CEC Main Control Room Simulator projects and related activities. Create, modify, and document simulation software logic and dynamic models, manage software configuration, and evaluate technology solutions. Identify project risks, provide second‑tier support to other simulators, engage with business partners to gather requirements, and perform additional assignments such as emergency response or outage support as directed. • Participate in planning, designing, building, and managing Main Control Room Simulator projects. • Create, modify, and document simulation software logic and dynamic models. • Manage software configuration and version control using GIT. • Evaluate technology trends and recommend solutions that meet business needs. • Identify project risks and issues and propose mitigations. • Provide second‑tier support to other simulators as backup. • Engage with business partners to gather requirements and deliver cost‑effective solutions. • Perform emergency response, departmental coverage, call‑outs, and outage support as needed. • Maintain required access levels and pass required medical examinations.

What You Bring
Minimum Qualifications: For the Simulator Software Engineer role, a bachelor’s degree in engineering or related science plus two years of relevant experience, or an associate’s degree plus four years of experience, is required, along with required access and medical clearances. For the Sr Simulator Software Engineer role, a bachelor’s degree plus five years of experience, or an associate’s degree plus seven years of experience, is required, with the same access and medical requirements. Preferred Qualifications: Candidates with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical or nuclear engineering and several years of engineering experience are preferred. Required technical skills include proficiency in FORTRAN and C, knowledge of graphic design software, experience with Visual Studio, engineering print reading, GIT configuration management, Windows OS installation and maintenance, network topology, and software interface protocols. Additional desired attributes are teamwork, self‑motivation, excellent written and verbal communication, and a solid understanding of advanced programming concepts, data structures, and algorithms. • Bachelor’s (or associate’s) degree in engineering or related science. • Minimum 2–5 years (or 4–7 years) of programming/engineering experience, depending on level. • Preferred: 3–5+ years of mechanical or nuclear engineering experience. • Proficiency in FORTRAN and C programming languages. • Experience with Visual Studio, Windows OS installation/maintenance, and network topology. • Knowledge of graphic design software and engineering print reading. • Strong teamwork, self‑motivation, and excellent written and verbal communication skills. • Understanding of advanced programming concepts, data structures, and algorithms.
