Project Director

About the Role

The role will direct strategic delivery plans, influence strategy implementation, and manage key stakeholder relationships while ensuring compliance with regulatory frameworks and commercial best practice. It requires overseeing a major project’s coordination and delivery, establishing the right team, governance, risk management and programme documentation, and acting as the public face of the programme to external stakeholders. • Direct coordination and delivery of a major construction project. • Define and implement the project delivery environment, including people, processes, information and technology. • Assemble and lead a high‑performing project team with the required skills and external specialist support. • Improve performance against the bid baseline by optimizing resources and reviewing methodologies. • Own executive stakeholder relationships and ensure efficient governance to support project activities. • Manage client relationships, interface communication and constructive challenge. • Chair executive steering group meetings and act as the programme’s public face to external stakeholders. • Lead safety, quality, cost, schedule, sustainability, risk and compliance standards throughout the programme. • Develop and maintain programme documentation such as plans, reports, registers and lessons learned. • Foster an inclusive, high‑performing team culture that encourages contribution and recognition. • Promote quality and service excellence in all programme interactions. • Implement and monitor an effective risk management strategy with appropriate treatments. • Translate broader business strategy to the project team and champion related initiatives. • Leverage Mace centres of excellence and networks to support delivery and share knowledge. • Ensure commercial and ethical viability of operations, including debt collection and regulatory compliance. • Provide thought leadership and expertise in project management and execution. • Champion safety first behaviours, conduct safety tours and apply the HSW framework. • Contribute to net‑zero carbon transition by managing carbon emissions during delivery. • Full oversight of external project budgets and internal fee budgets.

What You Bring

• Demonstrated track‑record of delivering major new‑build construction projects. • Advanced understanding of project management controls, governance and procedures. • Expertise in risk and opportunity management across the project lifecycle. • Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills in estimating, scheduling, procurement and financial reporting. • Contract literacy and performance management to maintain a high‑performance culture. • Professional membership in bodies such as MAPM, MRICS, MICE or CIOB. • Outstanding communication and presentation ability with senior clients and stakeholders. • Growth mindset that promotes curiosity, collaboration and sharing of best practice. • Awareness and respect for diverse technical, social and cultural backgrounds. • Experience in both consultancy and construction environments. • Proven innovator driving digital, data and low‑carbon solutions in construction.
