About the Role

In this position, you will guide HVAC and mechanical system design, ensure compliance with codes and industry standards, and integrate forward‑looking strategies for energy efficiency and resiliency. You will also lead cross‑functional teams, manage budgets and schedules, and produce technical analyses and presentations for clients and stakeholders. • Coordinate, review, and approve HVAC and mechanical system design plans for code and standard compliance. • Apply advanced mechanical and HVAC engineering techniques across all project phases. • Develop future‑ready HVAC strategies emphasizing energy efficiency, decarbonization, and ventilation performance. • Oversee complete HVAC system design and construction administration from inception to close‑out. • Lead cross‑functional engineering teams, managing budgets, hours, expenses, and technical deliverables. • Produce HVAC load calculations, airflow diagrams, psychrometric analyses, and system schematics. • Prepare technical reports and deliver presentations on design concepts and solutions. • Manage client relationships and contribute technical input to business development pursuits. • Build relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including vendors, construction partners, and regulators. • Ensure ethical decision‑making and compliance with WSP’s Code of Conduct.

What You Bring

WSP is seeking a Vice President of Mechanical Engineering for its Boston Property and Buildings office. This role is aimed at a licensed mechanical engineer with extensive HVAC design expertise, especially in complex healthcare and mixed-use commercial facilities, who can also contribute to business development. The role requires a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, a professional engineering license, and at least twelve years of post‑graduate experience designing HVAC systems for healthcare, laboratory, academic, and commercial environments. Candidates must possess deep technical knowledge of HVAC design, codes, and sustainability practices, as well as a strong professional network. Preferred qualifications include a master’s degree in business or engineering, LEED AP or WELL accreditation, five or more years of project management experience, and basic first‑aid and CPR training. • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field. • 12+ years of post‑degree experience in mechanical/HVAC design for healthcare, labs, higher education, and commercial sectors. • Professional Engineer license (multi‑state preferred). • Deep knowledge of HVAC design, pressurization, ventilation, humidity control, filtration, and specialized exhaust systems. • Strong network within the local engineering community. • Proficiency with design/bid and design/build delivery models and permitting processes. • Experience in HVAC planning, system selection, load calculations, energy modeling, sustainability practices, and construction administration. • Expertise in relevant codes, regulations, and compliance documentation. • Ability to perform mechanical calculations, interpret drawings, and ensure code compliance. • Demonstrated leadership and coordination skills for safe, efficient task completion. • Proven commitment to workplace safety and adherence to WSP’s policies. • Master’s degree in Business or Engineering (preferred). • LEED AP or WELL certification (preferred). • Minimum 5 years of project management experience (preferred). • Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training (desired).
