About the Role
The Landfill Gas Collection and Control Systems (GCCS) Technician reports to the Gas Operations Manager and is responsible for operating and maintaining landfill gas collection systems, including extraction wells, piping, and gas conveyance equipment such as fans or blowers. Collected landfill gas is routed to a flare for combustion, and the technician ensures the system complies with state and federal environmental regulations. The role requires working both inside the gas plant and outdoors in varying weather conditions, including inclement weather, heat, and humidity. Physical demands include handling pneumatic or electric pumps, adjusting valves, and performing maintenance on PVC or HDPE piping. • Operate and maintain GCCS to ensure regulatory compliance and optimize performance • Calibrate, operate, and maintain electronic data collection devices for LFG optimization • Collect and manage data from wellfield extraction and environmental monitoring locations • Implement GCCS preventative maintenance plan • Operate and maintain liquid‑management system pumps, troubleshoot and monitor liquid levels • Perform wellfield valve and vacuum adjustments, data collection, maintenance, and interpretation • Use PVC or HDPE piping and related equipment for pipe maintenance • Develop understanding of environmental regulations affecting GCCS operations • Follow job‑related health and safety procedures • Provide on‑call response to GCCS malfunction events

The position may require a REAL ID or TSA‑approved alternative for air travel or access to federal property. • Complete WM Landfill Gas Technician I training • Valid unrestricted driver’s license (required) • Experience in environmental fieldwork, construction, electrical, mechanical, or hands‑on settings (preferred) • Working knowledge of gas collection systems, pumps, blowers, or flare systems • Technical or trade‑school training in environmental science, mechanical systems, instrumentation, or related field • Experience with PVC or HDPE piping and components • Experience using data‑logging systems • Mechanical aptitude and experience in mechanical maintenance, including pumps, motors, and pneumatic equipment • Fundamental knowledge of computer data entry and interpretation • Ability to work independently in field environments with minimal supervision
