About the Role
The role focuses on delivering legal advice to projects and providing legal training across the business, while shaping the business strategy for the legal function and supporting its plans. You will contribute to the legal function's strategic plan, review tender contracts and legal agreements, deliver training programmes on legal and contractual risks, and provide comprehensive advice on issues, risks and commercial queries. You will also mentor junior team members, manage internal and external relationships, and support net‑zero carbon initiatives by identifying and managing associated emissions. • Contribute to and implement the legal function's strategic plan. • Review tender contracts and legal agreements for projects. • Deliver training programmes on legal and contractual risks. • Mentor junior legal team members and delegate responsibilities. • Provide comprehensive advice on risks, commercial queries and legal issues. • Build and maintain internal and external stakeholder relationships. • Support net‑zero carbon initiatives by managing associated emissions. • Advise senior stakeholders on legal solutions and risk mitigation. • Apply data‑driven approaches to risk management. • Work with NEC, JCT and FIDIC contracts and manage construction project insurances. • Navigate health and safety, building safety, and public procurement regulations. • Manage disputes, claims avoidance and contentious construction matters. • Communicate technical concepts to non‑technical audiences. • Influence and negotiate with senior stakeholders up to Project Director level. • Scan emerging legislation and legal trends to inform portfolio decisions. • Lead negotiations, coach team members and handle multiple priorities.

Industry experience demands qualification as a construction lawyer in England and Wales (or equivalent), multi‑jurisdictional exposure, and a track record handling contentious construction matters, disputes and claims avoidance. Professional competencies encompass communicating technical ideas to non‑technical audiences, influencing senior stakeholders up to Project Director level, managing change, demonstrating commercial awareness of the construction sector, and horizon scanning for emerging legislation and legal trends. Leadership expectations involve excellent negotiation skills, coaching and upskilling team members, managing multiple priorities, solving complex problems with legal expertise, and representing the legal team to internal stakeholders. • Hold a relevant degree with extensive experience in complex construction law. • Qualified construction lawyer in England and Wales (or equivalent) with multi‑jurisdiction experience. • Demonstrate strong commercial awareness of the construction sector.
