What You Bring
The Heating Engineer apprenticeship is a fixed‑term role based in Coatbridge, North Lanarkshire, offering the nationally agreed apprentice pay rates plus company benefits. Applicants must live in a North Lanarkshire postcode and will be paid for normal working hours as well as college attendance. The training provider is BPEC – Glasgow Kelvin College, with a provisional start date of 3 August 2026. Entry criteria include Nat 5 English, Maths and preferably physics, plus two Highers or a pre‑apprenticeship, allowing progression to SVQ levels 6 & 7. As a Heating Engineer you will undertake varied tasks such as kitchen and bathroom refurbishments, planned maintenance, and repair activities on industrial and commercial heating and ventilating systems. The role combines on‑the‑job learning with formal training to develop a comprehensive skill set. The apprenticeship programme covers a broad range of technical competencies, including health and safety legislation, electrical work on mechanical services, installation and testing of heating and ventilating pipework, inspection, commissioning, de‑commissioning, and servicing of heating, ventilating, air‑conditioning and heat‑pump systems. Successful candidates should be able to work at SCQF level 6 / 7, demonstrate a strong desire to learn, possess good communication skills, and be able to build and maintain positive customer relationships. Candidates will undergo a pre‑employment assessment and interview. All roles require the right to work in the UK, and the company does not sponsor visas. To drive a Mears vehicle you must be over 21, have held a licence for more than three months, and have fewer than nine penalty points. Background, identity and security checks are mandatory before employment begins. • Must reside in a North Lanarkshire postcode and travel independently to the branch. • Must have UK work entitlement; visa sponsorship is not offered. • Must be over 21, hold a driving licence for more than three months with fewer than nine points. • Must achieve Nat 5 English, Maths and preferably physics, plus two Highers or equivalent.
