About the Role

Light Equipment Operators operate construction equipment such as bobcats, bulldozers, excavators, front‑end loaders, backhoes, rollers and graders to move earth. They are also responsible for equipment inspection, safety, and may assist with minor repairs. The role includes helping other crafts during downtime, which can involve non‑operating tasks. The operator will precisely operate various dirt‑moving equipment, inspect the machinery before and after use, follow safety protocols, and obey signal directions when required. They must assess the work area for hazards and plan equipment operations accordingly. • Operate bobcats, bulldozers, excavators, loaders, backhoes, rollers and graders to move earth. • Perform pre‑ and post‑operation equipment inspections and complete inspection paperwork. • Follow all safety procedures and signal directions while operating machinery. • Assess work areas for hazards and plan equipment use accordingly. • Provide personal raincoat and rain boots; no additional certifications needed.

What You Bring

Candidates must have at least two years of experience as a dirt equipment operator and possess the knowledge, skills and abilities listed below. A valid driver’s license and a clean motor‑vehicle record may be required, along with reliable transportation and the necessary personal tools. Required knowledge includes operation of multiple types of construction equipment, basic mechanical aptitude for inspections, familiarity with soil types and excavation specifications, and the ability to follow written instructions. The employee must reliably complete administrative paperwork such as equipment inspection forms and adhere to all safety regulations. Preferred candidates are current Zachry or Zachry ROF’ed employees, have prior experience with Zachry Industrial, Inc., and hold a valid driver’s license. The position has no direct reports and reports to the designated supervisor. Physical demands include extended sitting, frequent communication, and use of arms and hands for signaling, gripping, turning, pushing and pulling. Workers may need to lift, carry or move up to 50 lb, pass a visual acuity test, and perform precise finger movements. Mandatory PPE includes hard hat, safety glasses or goggles, hearing protection, respirator or mask, safety vest, gloves and leather boots. Required personal tools are a raincoat and rain boots. Forklift experience is also required. • Minimum 2 years experience as a dirt equipment operator; basic mechanical knowledge required. • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation may be required; forklift experience mandatory. • Must be able to lift/move up to 50 lb, sit for long periods, and pass visual acuity test. • Wear required PPE: hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, hearing protection, respirator/mask, safety vest, gloves, leather boots.
