About the Role
The Design Engineer – Transmission Line role supports QISG’s mission to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient power delivery. The position involves designing, building, maintaining, and upgrading high‑voltage transmission infrastructure, applying both traditional methods and innovative technologies to achieve sustainable, cost‑effective solutions. Engineers on this team work collaboratively with project groups, produce detailed documentation, and may work 40–50 hours per week, including occasional overtime, while adhering to local regulations and industry codes such as NESC, IEEE, ANSI, and IBC. • Perform and lead overhead transmission line engineering tasks, including PLS‑CADD modeling, line routing, structure analysis, and loading trees. • Create scaled drawings and mapping using AutoCAD, MicroStation, ArcGIS, and related CAD software. • Apply engineering redlines accurately and conduct calculations for voltage drop, cable pulling, flicker analysis, and pole loading. • Prepare joint utility use authorizations based on field data and engineered designs. • Ensure designs comply with NESC, IEEE, ANSI, IBC, and other relevant codes and construction standards. • Conduct quality reviews to identify inaccuracies or compliance issues and recommend corrective actions. • Collaborate with engineers and project teams to develop solutions, maintain documentation, and support calculations.

What You Bring
• Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Structural Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program. • Possess at least 2 years of experience routing and designing high‑voltage overhead transmission line facilities. • Be proficient in AutoCAD, MicroStation, ArcGIS, and power distribution software such as PLS‑POLE, TOWER, SAG10, LPILE, or MFAD. • Have solid understanding of design codes and standards (NESC, IEEE, ANSI, IBC) and engineering drafting principles. • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.
